And these, they are our children And they deserve our best Theyre doing what we asked of them And for that, they are blessed Too young to vote to start this war Still, theyre the ones who pay God, hold them in your loving hand Protect them one more day
She studied Shakespeare and the classics, Latin, and the sea Astronomy, and physics And got her PhD
She felt her
country needed those Who offer what she shares Eagle, Globe, and Anchor Now the jewelry that she wears
He used to watch the airplanes When he was just a boy Balsa wood and silk Paint and plastic were his toys Dreams fly high on slender wings Now children look to him Pick up paint and plastic And the dream begins again
A beauty queen and glowing bride A helmet, not a crown Cammies for a trousseau Leaves behind her wedding gown A guardsman heading off to do The duty she has sworn To serve her countymen with honor Far afield or at home
The weekend soldier gets the call And strokes his daughters hair His wife drives him to the airport And wishes they werent there Last week he had a uke in hand And sang in Waikiki Now hes in the desert sands Singing of the sea.
